The same way that anyone sells anything!
For example, if its your girlfriend (or boyfriend), and you know that they REALLY like you and want to stay with you.... tell them that you can only see yourself, long term, with a smoker. Tell them how much it would influence the longevity of your relationship. You have dangled a huge carrot in front of them, and then threatened to take it away again! Its the easiest sale you will ever make and what the marketing boys do every day. Make them want it, but make them aware of the consequences if they dont do it (ie- you will be tempted away by a smoker).
One liners also work.... A dentist will tell you that sweets are bad for you, but you still eat them, right? Smoking is just like a candy for your lungs. Enjoyable, and in moderation, doing no more harm than a few sweeties.
Compliments- "You are a fantastic person. I love you. The only way I could love you any more, is if you were a light smoker. It really would suit you and compliment your fantastic personality". This suggests that you WOULD love them even more as a smoker, and the best bit is- YOU WOULD!
